In one of its more 'lighter' tuning proposals, MTM has released details on its new line of performance upgrades for the Audi RS5 coupe. Instead of fiddling around with the RS5's 450HP V8 engine to increase the car's top speed, the German tuning simply reprograms the factory electronic speed limiter of 250km/h or 280 km/h, allowing the coupe to reach a maximum velocity of 303 km/h or 188mph. The cost for the removal of the speed limiter is a hefty €1,499 or a little over US$1,900 at today's exchange rates.

MTM's program also includes a stainless steel sports exhaust system with throttle valves for €2,998 (US$3,850) and nine-spoke alloy rims, which are available in sizes 19", 20" and 21", with prices starting from €2,249 (US$2890). According to the tuner, an individually adjustable spring-kit is in development and will be offered later this year.

Car Reviews : 2010 MTM Audi S5 Cabriolet by Automobile

As delivered by the factory, Audi's S5 Cabriolet makes for a charismatic convertible. Although lacking the V-8 grunt of its fixed-roof sibling, it offers an enticing combination of power and style, yet is comfortable and benign enough to use as a daily driver. Is there any way to improve upon Ingolstadt's invention?

Moteren Technik Meyer, or MTM, certainly thinks so. The heralded German tuning firm feels a few subtle tweaks can turn Audi's shapely roadster from mild to wild.

Arguably, the most significant modification lurks within the electrical system. MTM's M-Cantronic engine controller contains the recalibrated engine computer mapping that allow drivers to explorer new frontiers with Audi's supercharged 3.0-liter V-6.

In stock form, the 3.0T engine produces a commendable 333 horsepower between 5500-7000 rpm, and 325 pound-feet of torque at 2900-5300 rpm. Install MTM's tuning module and a new exhaust system, and those figures jump to an impressive 430 horsepower and 379 pound feet

The modifications are mild, perhaps, but it still takes both skill and finesse to implement them in a seamless fashion. MTM's execution is flawless; everything looks, feels, and functions as if it were engineered by Audi itself. Cars equipped with Audi's Drive Select controller, for instance, still retain their variable settings; MTM's 430 horsepower is only fully unleashed once the driver selects the sport setting.

4.2 FSI V8 Engine

The questions are legitimate and short: A Street-legal Audi R8 with rear wheel drive? And with a 560 HP supercharged engine? The answer is also short. Yes it exists! It is call the
MTM Audi R8 GT3-2 Packing 560 horsepower (412 kW) and rear-wheel-drive, the supercharged 4.2 FSI V8 puts down 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque to help it pop 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 3.9 seconds. Top speed arrives at a claimed 317 km/h (197 mph).
The Audi R8 GT3-2 ditches all-wheel drive for rear-wheel drive. Elsewhere, the company installed a differential lock, an adjustable sports suspension, an improved braking system, aerodynamic carbon fiber body parts (front spoiler, side skirts and rear wing), and 20-inch forged wheels with Dunlop Sport Maxx GT (or Michelin Cup Sport) tires.
